Telco
Telecom "Classic" IPTV Solution
This assumes a closed IP network supporting IP multicast for broadcast channels and IP unicast for streaming VOD. Broadcast channel line up can come for example from a satellite downlink in a MPEG2 format and then be either transcoded or re encoded into MPEG4. VOD content would be streamed from a video server network with edge servers streaming the most favorite content with caching based content storage (e.g. 1000h) and library content coming from central servers with large scale storage (e.g. 5000h of content or more).
Channel change would occur through an IGMP request from the STB which would be translated at the first IP multicast point in the network which typically is a multicast capable DSLAM or the next Metro Ethernet switch in the network.
At STB boot up the STB would download the latest application suite from the Quative IPTV Service Delivery Platform (SDP) and it would receive its EPG data and VOD catalog data over the network which get updated from time to time. The applications stay resident on the STB and are executed locally on the STB.
Via the SDP new subscribers can be provisioned and at the start and for example get access to a basic broadcast package and VOD. The subscriber can then register online via a setting application for premium channel packages and additional VOD catalogs which is facilitated and managed by the SDP. The SDP connects via a web services based backend API to the operators CRM, billing, rating, network management systems and the platform can be purely accessed via the operator's backend systems or via the Quative SDP web based platform manager or a combination of thereof.
The Quative CMS from Lysis manages all linear and on demand content and comes pre integrated and packaged with the Quative SDP as a workflow engine. Operator can ingest EPG data from its EPG data provider and VOD meta data and author it if required. Further more the operator can define channel packages and different VOD catalogs with specific pricing and rating policies and publish those via the SDP. On a regular bases the operator can run royalty reports for its content providers and perform data mining functions for market research purposes.
